Reader’s Question:

My brother has been driving his car without auto insurance and he was suppose to turn in his license plates in Delaware. What is going to happen if he gets caught driving the car?

Daniel

Greater Newark, DE

Driving without insurance is a serious violation in most states including Delaware. If your brother was notified that his license plates were to be turned in and did not comply, his penalties will likely be quite serious.

If you do not surrender your license plates when you cancel or have a lapse in auto insurance in Delaware you will owe $100 per car for being uninsured 1-30 days and an additional $5 per car each day after thirty days.

You can verify with your Delaware Department of Motor Vehicles to check out what your state penalties are for driving without auto insurance.
