I received a reckless driving ticket in VA but I live in Newark, Delaware. The lawyer says she can try and get the charge converted to either speeding or improper driving. How would Delaware evaluate a speeding or an improper driving ticket? Which would have less impact on my car insurance?

According to the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles they include on your Delaware driving record all convictions, even those committed in other states.

The Delaware point system shows that speeding, depending on the amount over the speed limit, is a 2, 4 or 5 point offense. Improper driving would likely go under the “other moving violations” since it is not listed which have two points assigned to them. This can assist you check which violations the DE DMV find more serious.

A speeding ticket and improper driving might be the same to your insurance provider or one could be weighted more heavily than the other. Since each individual insurance carrier has their own rating system, you will have to verify with your car insurance company to find out about their rating system and various moving tickets in Newark Delaware.
